Pediatric dentistry is one of the most important branches of dentistry that aims to provide comprehensive oral health care for children including those with special heath care needs, and simultaneously, instills and implements a positive dental attitude for a lifetime. The word “Pediatric Dentistry” appears to be very simple to comprehend but for the intricacies of the relation between the child, the dentist and the parent. Pediatric Dentistry is an age specific specialty not a technique or disease specific specialty.Prevention and behaviour modification are the two hallmarks of Pediatric Dentistry which make it unique from other specialties of dentistry. It concentrates on integration of appropriate tactics and clinical knowledge from other specialties into a framework of quality oral health care for children.

Every child has a fundamental right to his or her total oral health, we as Pedodontists have to uphold this right.

To practice Pedodontics, it is required to follow a simple  fundamental philosophy:

“Treat the patient not the tooth”and at the same time instil a positive attitude.

  • To understand the principles of Preventive Dentistry right from birth till adolescence.
  • To prevent and intercept developing malocclusion.
  • To manage medically compromised children.
